Conservation Club Student Web Page
As part of their 2012 research, the Mfuwe Conservation Club, with the assistance of ZCP and CWET constructed their own webpage detailing their camera trapping projects in the Luangwa Valley. Here is the first entry from some of the club members.
What projects have you done with ZCP in the past?
We learnt about how to track carnivores with collars and do research on wild animals in the park. We have also learnt how to identify birds near water and in the bush. -Penelope, Malafian and Samson.

Students learning how radio collars work.

Learning about methods used in large carnivore research with ZCP staff Elias Rosenblatt.
What projects were carrying out in the past year (2012)?
Last year we were setting camera traps so we can see where animals are mostly found between different habitats. We wanted to know where we can find a lot of species of animals during the dry season between a seasonal river (Mushilashi) and a perennial river (Luangwa). -Samson and Mervis
Why was it important?
This was important because it can teach us how animals use different areas and in which habitats we can find more animals. -Maurice and Peter
What methods did you use?
We used the scientific method to help answer the question we had. We set cameras in the bush to take the picture of any moving animal in front of it. The picture also shows date and time each picture was taken. We went into the park every Friday to check the camera traps and record the different animals we found in the two habitats. -Samson, Kings and Maurice.

Memory Banda recording the different animals we could see around the Luangwa site.
What will you be doing in this term (2013)?
This term we will be analyzing the information we got from last term’s project using program like Microsoft Excel and Word. We will also present the results to our school mates and community members. -Penelope, Memory and George.
